Otay Mesa Warehouse Project Opposed by Sierra Club

Sierra Club of San Diego, represented by Chatten-Brown Law Group, filed a lawsuit against San Diego County over a recently approved warehouse project in Otay Mesa. The Otay Majestic warehouse project spans just over 253-acres on the east side of the South Bay Expressway. 

As proposed, the Otay Majestic project would allow almost 3 million square feet of industrial warehouse buildings . The Sierra Club challenged the Project for its failure to incorporate feasible measures to address air quality and greenhouse gas impacts, as well as  impacts to biodiversity, including risks to imperiled vernal pools and coastal sage scrub, and threatening endangered native species such as the California gnatcatcher.

​According to Dave Hogan of Sierra Club, “Any new large commercial project should include measures to minimize impacts to air quality and climate, especially projects generating truck traffic where air quality is already terrible.” This opinion is shared by Josh Chatten-Brown, who stated, “Significant impacts to air quality, climate, and endangered species trigger legal requirements to include clear and binding measures to reduce environmental impacts. But documents and approvals for this project don’t include meaningful or enforceable measures to reduce harm.”
